Cognitive Rehabilitation & Therapy
Cognitive Skills
Our goal is to help individuals of all ages restore normal brain functioning or compensate for cognitive deficits. Treatment for problems with thinking and/or memory involves processes such as relearning cognitive skills that have been lost or altered as a result of damage to brain cells or chemistry. If skills cannot be relearned new ones have to be taught in order to enable a person to compensate for their lost cognitive functions.
After a full neuropsychological evaluation, your doctor will determine if you or your loved one is an appropriate candidate for therapy.
Education
Get educated about cognitive weaknesses and strengths. Focus on developing awareness of the problem.
Process Training
The development of skills through direct retraining or practicing the underlying cognitive skills. Focusing on resolving the problem.
Functional Activities Training
This involves the application of three components in everyday life. The focus here is on real life improvements.
Strategy Training
This involves the use of environmental, internal and external strategies. Focusing on compensating rather than resolving the problem.
Treatment
Treatment sessions are typically weekly appointments lasting approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour. Treatment lengths range from 6-12 weeks, or longer depending on the particular case.
